DEMOCRATIC RAILROAD COMMISSION CANDIDATE CHRYSTA CASTAÑEDA RAISES MORE THAN $310,000 IN THIRD QUARTER

DEMOCRATIC RAILROAD COMMISSION CANDIDATE CHRYSTA CASTAÑEDA RAISES MORE THAN $310,000 IN THIRD QUARTER

Castañeda Haul on Track to Exceed Last 5 Democratic RRC Candidates Combined

Chrysta Castañeda, Democratic candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission, raised $310,709 in campaign contributions in the reporting period ended September 24. With six weeks still to report, her total fundraising haul is on track to exceed the amounts raised by the last five Democratic candidates for the Railroad Commission combined, according to their filings with the Texas Ethics Commission*.

“This is a sign that our campaign has struck a chord, both with voters and those who want the Railroad Commission to move into the 21st century,” Chrysta said. “Unchecked flaring and venting of methane is a black eye on the oil and gas industry, and it’s worsening the effects of climate change. I don’t know of any other race in the country that can have as big an impact on the health and well-being of all Texans, indeed, all Americans.”

Chrysta has received financial support from a wide spectrum of individuals and organizations, including the Sierra Club of Texas PAC, the AFL-CIO, a host of environmental donors and many industry executives. She has been endorsed by dozens of organizations and major newspapers around the state and received contributions from nearly 3,000 individual donors. The campaign recently made a major ad buy in Houston, which it plans to expand to other markets across the state.

Ann Marie Painter, treasurer of the campaign, noted the strong uptick in donations.

“I’m really pleased with how campaign fundraising has been skyrocketing over the past several months since the primary runoff on July 14,” she said.

Texas Democratic Party’s Deputy Executive Director Cliff Walker said the following:

“In the race for Texas Railroad Commissioner, there is only one person running who is actually qualified for the position: Chrysta Castañeda. Chrysta is an engineer, a lawyer, and someone who has been preparing for this role her entire career. Her record is clearly resonating with Texas voters, especially those who work in the energy sector.

“On November 3, we know Texans will elect Chrysta.”

Chrysta Castañeda is an engineer, attorney, and Democratic candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission. Her campaign website is www.chrystafortexas.com and is on social media at #chrystafortexas.
