DEMOCRATIC RAILROAD COMMISSION CANDIDATE CHRYSTA CASTAÑEDA SWEEPS MAJOR NEWSPAPER ENDORSEMENTS, BEGINS 6-FIGURE AD BUY IN HOUSTON, DALLAS, SAN ANTONIO, CORPUS CHRISTI AND RIO GRANDE VALLEY
Chrysta Castañeda, Democratic candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission, is making a second 6-figure television advertising buy in the Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Rio Grande Valley media markets following a solid third quarter of fundraising.
In addition to receiving campaign contributions from more than 3,000 individual donors, Chrysta has received the endorsement of every major Texas newspaper that has issued an endorsement so far. The most recent came from The Dallas Morning News, which said Chrysta has the “practical solutions to put the commission in a leadership role on major energy issues.” (The Texas Railroad Commission oversees Texas’ oil and gas industry.)
“Castañeda, 57, calls on the commission to focus on the first tenet in its mission statement, stewardship of natural resources and the environment,” the newspaper’s editorial board wrote. “Doing so would guide the commission to resolve some of its knotty problems while dealing fairly with energy companies and supporting the public trust that is necessary for the industry to thrive.”
The just-announced ad buy is in addition to the one made last month in Houston. The ad, which contrasts Castañeda with her Republican opponent, Jim Wright, has been running there for two weeks.
“It’s clear we’re picking up momentum and gaining the attention of voters who want to see some real change at the Texas Railroad Commission,” Chrysta said. “My campaign has focused on cleaning up the environment and preserving our natural resources while also supporting the hundreds of thousands of jobs tied to oil and gas. We can do both, and anyone who says we can’t needs to step back and let some real problem-solvers get in the driver's seat.”
Chrysta has received financial support from a wide spectrum of individuals and organizations, including the Sierra Club of Texas PAC, the AFL-CIO, a host of environmental donors and many industry executives.
The Texas Democratic Party’s Deputy Executive Director Cliff Walker said he is confident Texans will elect Chrysta on Nov. 3.
“In the race for Texas Railroad Commissioner, there is only one person running who is actually qualified for the position: Chrysta Castañeda,” he said. “Chrysta is an engineer, a lawyer, and someone who has been preparing for this role her entire career. Her record is clearly resonating with Texas voters, especially those who work in the energy sector.”
